Title: e-VICTED Artist: Albert Lujan Exhibition Dates: April 21 – August 25, 2000

eVICTED, is the third in a series of digital murals for the year 2000. Created by Mission district artist Albert Lujan. eVICTED explores the tensions caused by Cultural Differences and the displacement of jobs and housing as the Mission District changes from a predominantly-Latino working class enclave to a dot.com startup hotspot. Albert Lujan is a noted emerging artist in San Francisco. He is a writer, filmmaker, performer and visual artist. His art has been exhibited at Galería De La Raza, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Somar and the Mission Cultural Center. His first film, “S&M in the Hood,” was picked up for distribution by Frameline and he will soon begin production of his second film “Corn in the Front Yard,” for which he won the Potrero Nuevo Fund Award for filmmakers . Digital mural program coordinator John Leaños notes that “because these murals incorporate computer technology, they represent the new wave of muralism. Latino/a artists have always been at the forefront of mural creation in the Mission District. By providing a public space at the busy intersection of 24th and Bryant, Galeria continues it’s long history of supporting muralism while giving artists working in new media such as digital photography a chance to create highly visible art.
