About Galeria's Internship Opportunities

Galería de la Raza offers internship opportunities for college and graduate students interested in careers in the arts. Based upon their academic training and interests, as well as the availability of projects, interns work in one of the Galería's departments — curatorial, public relations, development, public programs, or our Digital Mural Project billboard. Applicants of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

CURATORIAL  INTERNSHIP

Galería de la Raza has an immediate opening for a multi-tasking, talented and motivated curatorial intern. The curatorial intern will work closely with the curatorial & Special Programs Manager and exhibiting artists on a variety of projects including but not limited to:

 

  • Provide administrative support for exhibitions in the main gallery, Studio 24 and Galería’s Artist in Residence program.

  • Overseeing ongoing maintenance of exhibition spaces

  • Fielding any questions from the public about exhibitions and hosting any tours

  • Assisting in the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions and hosting any tours.

  • Assisting with the setup of public programs and events.

  • Creating content about Galería’s exhibitions for Galería’s website and social media channels.

  • Gallery sitting when needed



SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

- Knowledge of contemporary art & art history

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Photoshop

- Past experience with installing/handling of artwork and basic knowledge of tools and hardware related to exhibition installation is preferred

- Ability to endure mild physical labor is a must

- Some nights/weekends may be required

- Being highly organized and attentive to detail is necessary for this position

 

TIME COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION

10-15 hours per week, flexible on days committed. This position is unpaid, but available for school credit. At least one day per week spent in-gallery.



PUBLIC PROGRAMS INTERNSHIP

Galería de la Raza has an immediate opening for a multi-tasking, superstar Public Programs and Events Intern. The intern will work closely with Galería staff supporting and cultivating community, including but not limited to:

 

  • Provide administrative support for all rental inquiries, partnerships, and co-presentations.

  • Assist in creating original program such as opening receptions, artist talks, literary events, etc.

  • Provide support in planning and executing community events

  • Research potential featured artists/performers for public programs

  • Archive past and ongoing programs

  • Assist in creating content about Galería’s programs

 

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

- Past experience in public programs and event planning a plus

- Flexibility in working some nights and weekends

- Solid writing skills, with a capability to work under tight turnaround

- Knowledge of AV/Sound Equipment a plus, not necessary

- Familiarity with social media platforms

- Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, and Google platforms

- Being highly organized and attentive to detail is mandatory for this position

OPERATIONS  INTERNSHIP

Galería de la Raza has an immediate opening for a talented and motivated intern. The intern will work closely with the Executive Director and Executive Assistant on a variety of projects including, but not limited to:

  • Provide administrative support for the exhibitions in the main gallery, Studio 24 and Galería’s future screen printing program.

  • Maintaining a working office space- e.g. ordering supplies when needed, running relevant errands, and providing support with grant documents

  • Overseeing ongoing maintenance of exhibition spaces and office space

  • Fielding any questions from the public about exhibitions and hosting any tours

  • Assisting with the setup of public programs and events

  • Gallery sitting when needed

  • A jack of all trades!



SKILLS AND REQUIREMENT

 

- Solid writing skills, with a capability to work under tight turnaround

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Platforms and Photoshop

- Ability to work unsupervised and follow through on long-term projects

- Experience in Photoshop a must, video or audio editing program a plus

- Past experience in arts administration experience prefered
