CURATORIAL STATEMENT Discoteca Habana - c.1986, a billboard by photographer Linda G. Wilson documenting one wall on 24th Street at Harrison. An active member and longtime resident of the Mission, Linda G. Wilson began photographing the neighborhood’s street graffiti almost thirty years ago as it made its visual and widespread ascent. Wilson’s Discoteca Habana captures the unrestrained iconography of Latino pop culture and its impact on the urban landscape. The billboard honors María Cuzco, the Discoteca’s shop owner who recently passed away. | |
