Gustavo Ramos Rivera
Gustavo Rivera was born in 1940 in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico. He has had several commissions for public art projects, such as a, painting for American Airlines Terminal, San Francisco International Airport (1978) and a painting for the West Lobby, at the Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco, CA (1981). He is the recipient of a Eureka Fellowship, Fleishhacker Foundation, San Francisco, CA (1992). Rivera has exhibited extensively throughout Mexico as well as at several venues the United States, such as Galería de la Raza and the George Belcher Gallery, San Francisco, CA; the Alternative Museum, New York, NY; San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, San Jose, CA; M. H. de Young Memorial Museum, San Francisco, CA, as well as the Galerie Rahn in Zurich, Switzerland. He holds a unique place in Chicano art as one of a few artists dedicated to abstraction.
