Dolissa Medina is a San Francisco-based filmmaker and writer. Her films include "Grounds" (2000), "Fight or Flight" (2002) and "A Lineage of Kind Men" (2004). She is the recipient of a 2002 Film Arts Foundation Personal Works Grant and a 1999 Film Arts Foundation STAND Grant for emerging filmmakers. Ms. Medina has been involved with the Bay Area independent film community through her work as a filmmaking mentor, film festival publicist and volunteer for several media arts organizations. She has also lectured on Latino cinema at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and University of California-Davis.
A trained journalist, Ms. Medina's essays and critical writing have appeared in such publications as The San Francisco Bay Guardian, Release Print, and Frontera magazine, as well as the anthologies Generation Q: Inheriting Stonewall and Southwestern Women: New Voices. She is originally from South Texas.
