Youth Media Project

The Youth and Public Media Project is a Galería-sponsored mentorship program directed by Julio C. Morales and which brings together students from the San Francisco Art Institute, the California College of the Arts, youth from Bay Area high schools and Youth Speaks, and Galería de la Raza’s artists-in-residence. College students are trained in arts education, mentorship and community-based public art/social justice practices. The students also develop and teach multi-media workshops to youth participants. The class explores the potential "uses" of artwork in a social context and the role of the artist as a citizen in public life. College students are trained in arts education, mentorship and community-based public art/social justice practices. The students also develop and teach multi-media workshops to youth of color (video and sound editing and computer graphics). This youth component of the program is in collaboration with Youth Speaks.
