Galería de la Raza is proud to announce the launch of the public mural project Make Things New with renowned visual artist Lorraine García-Nakata.
Make Things New will be housed at Casa Adelante- 2828 16th Street. The site, co-developed by Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) and Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) is home to 143 affordable housing units that guarantees families can live and thrive in the Mission District.  The building’s first floor is home to several integral nonprofit organizations, including Galería de la Raza's one of two permanent homes, Studio 16, at 2840 16th Street.
Make Things New connects our past to our future by reflecting on the legacies of the cultural corridor that the building stands on.  The mural poignantly asks, “What does it look like, feel like, after the fight?”. Centering the often overlooked first voice perspectives to answer this question, the mural offers a moment of respite, care, and tenderness to our neighbors in the building and the neighborhood.
