Casa Adelante 1990 Folsom Groundbreaking

Wednesday, May 22, 2019 - Friday, August 30, 2019

Last Friday, May 10th was a momentous day for the Mission community. We blessed the ground that will house 143 affordable housing units, along with 3 community organizations: HOMEY, Felton Institute and Galería de la Raza.

This housing project is a model we should strive for in all of our communities. Creating sites that honor our traditions and rituals will further support the social fabric and people that have contributed to the art & social movements of the Mission District. For Galería, after the last few months of transition, Friday’s celebration was indeed a renacimiento. We would like to thank MEDA, TNDC and the City of San Francisco for their commitment to the realization of Casa Adelante: 1990 Folsom.
We stand on the shoulders of our visionary elders and ancestors. Without the foundation that they laid for us, we would not have arrived to today. It has been such a blessing to have intergenerational relationships and mentorship with artists, curators, board members and staff that have long been a part of the Galería’s legacy. This journey doesn’t end here, our future home will enable Galería to continue in its celebration of our rituals, traditions and commitment to the future regenerations.
