Curanderismo y Abuelita Knowledge

Saturday, October 20, 2018 | 12:00 pm

On Saturday, October 20th join us for a day of abuelita medicine as part of the programming of #ComidaEsMedicina. "Curanderismo and Abuelita Knowledge" will share medicina wellness with herbs and energia, passed down from generation to generation, and is accessible to nuestra gente.

We will be having two pláticas, Herbal Remedios For Health And Wellbeing led by Napaquetzalli Martinez and Panza and Nervios led by Sonia Suarez and Angela Aguilar. Read about the workshops below:

Health And Wellbeing explores herbal remedios and tonics to support daily health and optimal wellbeing. Come learn about different herbal allies and how to use teas and tonics to nourish the body and increase vitality, and support immune health, stress, and sleep. The plants and herbs carry so much medicine and healing for us, and connecting with them can not only shift chronic or acute physical conditions but also create deep transformation within the heart and spirit as well. They are here to be our medicine and our teachers, as well as nourish and strengthen us in the face of systemic oppression and misrepresentations of our lands and cultures. Napa is passionate about connecting folks to their ancestral healing tools and medicines to elevate wellness on an individual level as well as within our communities.

Panza and Nervios workshop explores how connections of mind, body, and spirit are personal, political, and powerful. The panza (a Spanish-language colloquialism meaning stomach, tummy, or belly) is one important place where we can more deeply and intuitively understand the ways in which we already know ourselves and the world around us. Panza Awareness has no single definition, it can be found in: a home remedy, eating habits, emotional (dis)orders, gastrointestinal conditions, diabetes, menstruation, a mother’s intuition, your “gut instinct”, exercising, your sense of style, a memory, a favorite smell, a hated food item, sexuality, etc. What do we know in our guts that may not “count” as valid knowledge? How can we harness the healing powers of our own tummies to make us scientists, healers, and agents of our own growth and success? This workshop will help us explore the untapped power of healing found right in our own panzas!
