LUNADA is the Bay Area’s only full moon bilingual literary ritual & performance gathering devoted to spoken word, música, song, and story. Located in the heart of the Mission District at Galería de la Raza, and guest curated by some of the Bay Area’s most dynamic word slingers and artists, each LUNADA features community poets, local legends, visiting mystics, and other mero meros of the stage.

Hecha en México, NORMA LILIANA VALDEZ made her way to California in her mother’s pregnant belly. She is an alumna of the VONA/Voices Writing Workshop, the Writing Program at UC Berkeley Extension, and was a 2014 Hedgebrook writer-in-residence. She is the winner of the 2016 Tinderbox Poetry Journal prize with her poem “Tepoztlán Blues", selected by Eduardo C. Corral. A member of the Macondo Writers’ Workshop and a CantoMundo fellow, her poems appear in Calyx, Huizache, and Rio Grande Review among others.

LIZA JIMENEZ is a Bay Area singer, originally from Los Angeles. Liza sings everything from R&B to Jazz but her true passion, inspired by her Mexican heritage, is singing traditional boleros and canciones rancheras. Liza performed with Orquesta d’Soul, a funk/salsa band, for many years and had the opportunity to perform all over California. Together, Liza and Manuel produce a soulful take on traditional Mexican tunes.

Bay Area native MANUEL CONSTANCIO JR. is an accomplished and versatile guitarist / vocalist whose 25-year association with the Navy Band found him directing the NATO Band in Naples, Italy; on Treasure Island, in San Francisco; and in San Diego, California. He was the Navy’s first “minority” band director. He co-directs the band Sabrosito with his brother José.
