F.T.P: For the People

Galeria de la Raza presents, F.T.P: For the People, an exhibition that situates itself in contemporary issues of systematic oppressions happening across America. 

This exhibition comes rooted in Audre Lorde's 1979 essay, "The Master's Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master's House,” as our communities are those who stand outside the circle of this society's definition of acceptable. In today's context, we acknowledge that the master's house is not our only source of support and that the current systematic structures at play will never enable us to bring about genuine change in our communities. This feels especially true at a time when massive police killings are happening locally and around the nation.

The artists presented in this exhibition offer a critique to the harsh realities of systematic oppressions and inequalities that exists in our society, which make it hard for our communities to be able to survive and thrive. The exhibiting works create a platform that honors our struggle and cultural resistance in the fight against the institutional dehumanization of our peoples over body, mind and soul. F.T.P: For the People is a call to survival and agency; it is a call to define, seek, and reclaim a world in which we can all flourish.
