LUNADA is the Bay Area’s only full moon bilingual literary ritual & performance gathering devoted to spoken word, música, song, and story. Located in the heart of the Mission District at Galería de la Raza, and guest curated by some of the Bay Area’s most dynamic word slingers and artists, each LUNADA features community poets, local legends, visiting mystics, and other mero meros of the stage.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

CHHOTI MAA: Born out of a tradition of migrants, and forced by the Mexican post-NAFTA exodus, my raps have roots in my grandmother’s poetic recitation. I developed through poetry, and then established myself as a rapper in Richmond VA, but really deepened my freestyle lyrical skills in Trujillo, Peru. My music deals with a de-colonial identity, migrant swag representing the womyn temple.

JASON BAYANI: is the author of Amulet from Write Bloody Press. He's an MFA graduate from Saint Mary's College, a Kundiman fellow, and is currently the Program Manager for Kearny Street Workshop. http://jasonbayani.com/

SANDRA GARCIA RIVERA: is an award-winning Nuyorican poet and vocalist. She became a poet in the Mission District of the 1990s inspired by local master Piri Thomas, “Every child is born a poet.” She has captured audiences throughout the U.S., Caribbean, and Europe as a solo artist and alongside musical legends. SGR has published two chapbooks: Divination of the Mistress, and Shoulder High, and has been anthologized in Caribbean Erotic, Breaking Ground: Puerto Rican Women Writers in New York 1980-2012, Centro Journal, Hostos Review/Revista Hostosiana, and Urban Latino Magazine, among others. As a vocalist, she has performed, toured and recorded with international Latin roots music and jazz artists. She is a teaching artist with WritersCorps, holds an MFA in Poetry from Antioch University, and is a 2015 Artist-in-Residence with the Headlands Center of the Arts.
