 Maricón Collective
Digital Mural
Friday, June 5, 2015 - Friday, July 17, 2015Galería de la Raza is pleased to announce its newest digital mural installation, Por Vida, a work by Manuel Paul of the Los Angeles-based Maricón Collective. Timed in honor of San Francsico Pride Month and inspired by the dedicated work of Queer People of Color, Paul’s art celebrates achievement and strength in the LBGT community.
Maricón Collective is a Queer Chican@/Latin@ DJ and Artist collective with a mission to preserve East Los Angeles Queer History by bringing QPOC and allies together through art, music, and celebration. Re-appropriating the once negative connotation of the term Maricón, they have made visible a new generation of queer Chican@/Latin@s by taking over dance floors, galleries, and other public spaces, bringing QPOC people together in celebration of a shared appreciation for culture.
