Galeria is excited to co-present two events at this year's Cine+Mas festival, with a cocktail hour to follow post-film

Wednesday, September 19: Unfinished Spaces, directed by Benjamin Murray and Alysa Nahmias

Synopsis: Following their emotional exile from Cuba in 1965, three architects return forty years later to finish what was considered the world’s most spectacular and futuristic art school, but was left to ruin by the country’s Revolution. In 1961, three young, visionary architects were commissioned by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara to create Cuba’s National Art Schools on the grounds of a former golf course in Havana. Features intimate footage of Fidel Castro, showing his devotion to creating a worldwide showcase for art.

 

Wednesday, September 26: Latin American Shorts Program, featuring four short films

Dry / A Secas, directed by Andreas Papacostas (2 min/Mexico 2012): an animated short on water conservation.

The Empty Nest / El Nido Vacío, directed and written by Francisco Lupini-Basagoiti (25 min/Spain/Venezuela/USA 2012): a scatterbrained, well-meaning sex therapist embarks on a journey to reconnect with her angst-ridden son after discovering his troubles may stem from the sizable ‘problem’ tucked inside his trousers.  Trailer >>

Inverse, 3 ½ Turns, in Position C / Inverso Tres y Media Vueltas, en Posición, directed by Carlos Lenin (2 min/Mexico 2012): a young man dives into the abyss. Alongside him, a young couple caresses and smiles hanging onto a moment of ecstasy.

The People’s Wardrobe/ El Ropero del Pueblo, directed by Peter McPhee Cruz (20 min/Chile 2011)
: Chile, 1932. In middle of an economic depression Alicia helps by repairing worn out clothes that are delivered to poor people. She meets a younger girl who forms part of the world Alicia will discover: the world of poverty. A friendship ensues despite their differences and the political tension around them.  Trailer >>

Trópico Exótico, directed by Viviana Gómez Echeverry (22 min, Colombia 2012): Emilio’s dream of being an established musician is coming to fruition as his band becomes more and more successful. Then Violeta, his ex-girlfriend and muse, suddenly comes back one night, shaking things up and reigniting their relationship. Just when everything seems to be going right, destiny plays a dirty card that will change their lives.  Trailer >>
