Thursday, December 23, 2010 - Friday, February 4, 2011

Galería de la Raza wishes Felices Fiestas to all this holiday season with our digital mural ‘Party Animals’ by Raul Aguilar.

Raul Aguilar creates pop-folk objects often filled with humor and inspired by traditional Mexican cultural celebrations, such as the Day of the Dead. Recurring images in his work include angels, demons, skeletons, divas and pre-Hispanic characters. His work explores visual sources as diverse as comic books, folk toys, graffiti, and tattoo imagery. Born in Mexico City, he lives in San Francisco. His work has been exhibited in several museums, including the Sonoma County Museum of Art, Sonoma, CA; Oakland Museum of Art, Oakland, CA; and El Museo del Barrio, NYC. Aguilar has also shown his work at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, CA; The Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts San Francisco, CA; and Galeria de la Raza. Raul Aguilar has been an Advisory Board member of Galería’s ReGeneration Program for emerging artists.
