Aya de Leon Is Running for President

Sunday, October 9, 2005 | 7:00 pm

Fed up with the theft of the 2000 presidential election, the current administration, the war, the lies, and the downright incompetence?  Aya de Leon, critically acclaimed slam poet, and hip-hop theater artist declared her candidacy for the white house.  In outlining her plan to get the nation on the right track, the “Black/Puerto Rican 36 year-old spoken word phenom” [SF Chronicle] offered the best of her political poetry and spoken word, including the award-winning Grito de Vieques, satire favorites such as Sensitive Guys, as well as her sometimes hilarious, sometimes hard-hitting takes on Nipplegate, the war in Iraq, the book The Rules, R. Kelly, reparations, and marrying herself.
